Points secure for Villa, following a hard fought win

Aston Villa defeat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday at Selhurst Park. Palace were looking for a victory after a 3-3 draw against Burnley. Villa, on the other hand, were coming off the back of a 2-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion. After today’s result, both teams are on 16 points and occupy 10th and 11th places respectively after 13 matches.

It was an impressive opening from The Villa, thanks to a goal from Matt Targett, 15 minutes in, to take a 0-1 lead into half time.

Villa continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from John McGinn in the 86th minute. In the end though, The Eagles just before the final whistle hit back though via a Marc Guehi goal. The game ended with a 2-1 win for Villa.

Both coaches used all substitutions. For Palace, Eberechi Eze, Odsonne Edouard and Jordan Ayew, came on for Luka Milivojevic, Wilfried Zaha and Michael Olise, Villa brought on Douglas Luiz, Anwar El Ghazi and Emiliano Buendia, to replace Jacob Ramsey, Leon Bailey and Ashley Young.

There were bookings for Wilfried Zaha, Joel Ward and Luka Milivojevic from Palace, and Matty Cash, Marvelous Nakamba and Douglas Luiz, for Villa.

Palace will play their next game away against Leeds United, while Villa will face Manchester City at home.
